DelRoy Anderson passed away on Friday, April 30. His obit can be found on walkerfamilymortuary.com. His viewing is May 6 and his funeral is May 7 at 1 p.m. DelRoy is a first cousin of Aunt Cumora and Aunt Gen.

LOCATION: Spanish Fork, UT
eloved husband, father, and grandfather DelRoy G. Anderson, 77, a longtime resident of Spanish Fork, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010 in Payson. He was born December 11, 1932 to Cariel and Vilate Anderson in Afton, Wyoming, where he grew up. He attended BYU and graduated from University of Utah where he played football for both universities. DelRoy started his long teaching and high school coaching career for the Washoe School District in Nevada. He returned to Utah to teach in the Granite School District in Salt Lake City, the Sevier District in Richfield, and the Nebo District in Spanish Fork. He led the Spanish Fork Dons as head football and track coach through 20 successful seasons as well as coaching wrestling and baseball. DeRoy loved participating in and watching all sports and especially enjoyed following the careers of former students and Utah teams.
DelRoy was a member of the LDS faith, and served as bishop of the Spanish Fork 2nd Ward, along with many other church callings. He was dedicated to serving in the Provo Temple for many years. He spent the last 10 years of his life living in Gunlock enjoying the warm southern Utah weather. He loved the southern Utah area and the people he met.
He is survived by his wife, Afton Beckstrand of Spanish Fork, and their five children, Lowell of Payson, UT, Chris of Denver, CO, Lisa of Eureka, NV, Dale of Sandy, UT, and Amy of Spanish Fork, and their twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. DelRoy is also survived by his sister, Helen Hancy, of SLC.
Viewing will be Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Spanish Fork 2nd Ward Chapel, 98 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

Hi Cousins,
Plans for the cousins reunion are moving forward, and I want you to have information so you can get it on your calendars.
The date is Saturday, June 26.
Joel has arranged for us to golf at Talon Cove, a nice new course on the West Side of Utah Lake in Saratoga Springs. We will tee off at 10 am which should give us plenty of time to get back to Farmington by 7 pm.
Lonnie has generously agreed to host us at his place for a pot luck supper that evening. We have set the time at 7 pm. Lonnie will furnish the meat and we are asking everyone else to bring a vegetable dish or a desert or a salad, enough to serve maybe 8 or 10 people with Gardner appetites.
We will get back to you at a later time with further details.

Dear Family...
I wanted to share a few thoughts about the funeral service Saturday for cousin Eugene in Afton. It was very moving and heartwarming. There were several family members who braved the weather to attend from Utah. The Afton 1st Ward members made the necessary arrangements, provided flowers and a luncheon and went the extra mile to conduct the service. I felt like the service was an outpouring of love to our good cous. Two of his friends (one from childhood and the other a fellow police officer) paid tribute to Eugene's good nature, sense of humor, sense of duty and willingness to help others. Eugene's oldest daughter Kacy gave his life sketch, making particular mention of her father's ability to fix anything and be there when she and Heather needed help. Bishop Challis concluded by offering a touching tribute to Eugene's commitment to keep promises, by referring to the Robert Frost poem, "Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening", and quoting, "The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep". I know his children and his wife Karen will miss him deeply, as will his dear sisters, our cousins Diane and Joanne. The cemetery, where so many of our loved ones are buried was blanketed with fresh snow. Gene was laid to rest next to Loren and Elna. A group of veteran's dressed in full uniform rendered a magnificent 21 gun salute to Gene, a veteran himself. At the end of the dedication of his grave, while mingling, George, Darla and I asked where the graves of Grandma and Grandpa were. Cousin Jane pointed easterly, toward the mountains and said, Aunts Dorothy, Marguerite, Grandpa and Grandma are right over there. Unfortunately, the snow was too deep to get much closer. As I ponder that day, maybe it's because of the fact that Eugene and I are the same age (18 days apart), served as missionaries in California together that I feel so deeply about his loss. Or, maybe it'sbecause I felt the presence of our loved ones at the cemetery, particularly my father's, so strongly in the Valley over Easter weekend, that I feel so grateful for the heritage we have! We have deep, deep roots. The children of Brigham and Maria Gardner were loving, tough minded, hard working, kind hearted, enthusiastic, positive, generous, faithful and wonderful examples for me to follow. I pay honor to our ancestry. Especially to the values they espoused and lived. It really must be in the water, but I get such a nostalgic feeling every time I go to the Valley! Lastly, I ask that you pray for Eugene's wife Karen, his children and grandchildren in this their time of need.

Funeral services for Eugene “Gene” Mallory will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at noon in the Afton LDS Tabernacle.
A viewing will take place from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
